Be Ready | The Parable of the Talents | Matthew 25:14-30
What does it mean to truly be ready for Jesus' return? In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents to teach His followers that waiting for His return is not passive—it is active, faithful obedience.
In this message, "Be Ready," we discover that every believer has been entrusted with something valuable by God. The talents in the parable represent the responsibilities, opportunities, gifts, time, and resources God has placed in our care. While each servant receives a different amount, each is expected to faithfully use what has been given. The focus is not comparison but faithfulness.
Jesus warns that a day is coming when He will return and settle accounts with His servants. This future judgment raises an important question: What are you doing with the time God has given you? Our daily choices reveal where our hearts truly are and whether we are living for God's Kingdom or our own.
The faithful servants receive the joyful words every believer longs to hear: "Well done, good and faithful servant."Their reward comes not because they earned salvation, but because their faithful lives demonstrated genuine trust in their Master. The sermon encourages believers to evaluate whether they are investing their lives in God's eternal purposes by seeking His Kingdom, serving others, and living in obedience.
The third servant, however, is driven by fear rather than faith. Instead of stewarding what was entrusted to him, he hides it. His inaction exposes a heart that neither trusted nor loved his master. Jesus uses this sobering example to remind us that genuine love for God produces faithful obedience. As the sermon states, "Sloth is choosing not to do the hard work that love requires."
Ultimately, this message points beyond stewardship to the hope of Christ's return. Revelation 19 reminds believers that Jesus will return to establish His Kingdom. Until that day, Christians are called to remain faithful, work for His Kingdom, and live with eternity in view. The invitation is clear: Be ready. Your Master is coming.
